Family Time

Ivan called and left a message on my phone telling me that they were wanting to make some homemade ice cream and asked Lance and I if we would like to come over join them.  We schedule the get together for Sunday 7/22 after naptime.  So when Shelby got up from her nap we got swim suits and stuff together to go over and visit with Ivan, Angel, Kaity, and Kent.  The kids had a good time playing together, as they always do!

We made and consumed ice cream, then the kids got into the water and splashed and played.  They decided they had enough swimming so they got out and continued to play.  Kent has a Ford "truck" that they enjoyed driving around!

We also celebrated a belated birthday for Shelby.  It was a wonderful afternoon!  Jenna keeps asking when we can go back and play with Kaity and Kent again!

Terrible Two's

So, overall I have to say I have pretty good kids.  They are sweet hearts!  They love to give out hugs and kisses (to people they see often).  They play good together.  They don't get in too much trouble....most of the time.  However, when Shelby hit two, she has been a little more interested in testing the waters.

Last week, my mom called.  She was on her way home from work and I was working on making supper.  Lance wasn't home from work yet.  I answered the phone and started carrying on conversation with my mom.  What we spoke about, I couldn't say.  I don't believe it was anything important.  The kids were happily playing in Shelby's room and I didn't think much of it.  They typically go in there an play with the Winnie the Pooh and friends plush animals.

When I got off the phone with my Mom, I went in Shelby's room to see what was going on.  This is what I found........................

Wonder what the white powder is?  Take a guess, what white powdery substance would you typically find in a kids room.  Give up yet?  Baby Powder!  That's right!  My kids took and entire bottle of baby powder and emptied it all over Shelby's room!  IT COVERED EVERYTHING!!!!!!!

Needless to say, Mommy was not very happy.  The girls sat in time-out for an hour and a half while I cleaned the entire bedroom.  The only good thing is, she has a laminate hard-wood floor in her room which made the mess easier to clean.

Then 3 nights later, the kids are sitting at the bar coloring with markers.  I turn around get food out of the fridge and start supper on the stove.  Jenna says, "We don't color on ourself, Shelb"  I hollar from the fridge, "write on the paper, Shelby."  I turned around and found that Shelby was inking herself.  Luckily, it was washable marker and she limited it to her arms!

However, she was ashamed of herself and REFUSED to let me take pictures, until we got in the bathroom and she needed help to wash it off!

How many more months until she is three?

Sullivan County Fair

Vincennes Tractor, Lance's work, typically has a booth with kids toys, clothes, and miscellaneous items at the Sullivan County Fair.  Since one of Lance's counties he covers is Sullivan, he typically works every night or all but one night of the fair.  I decided to take the girls out to see the Sullivan County Fair and their Daddy on Wednesday night 7/18; however, they were too excited about the tractor to pay any attention to their Daddy!

While walking through the exhibit hall I noticed this random guy.  I am not sure what all he is made out of, but the base looked like a cheese ball or icing ball of some sort with pretzels, sunflower seeds, and different sugar candies for decoration.  I thought it was pretty clever.

Parade

Clay City Fair ususally has a parade on Wednesday night to kick off the fair.  This year, the Fourth of July was on Wednesday so they had to rearrange the fair schedule a little bit.  I had only seen the tail end of the parade and that was last year.  Mom and Dad left just before it rained, we got a small rain shower, and decided to go over to the parade since the rain had stopped.

I didn't get any pictures, because I was helping, but the girls had a BLAST!  They were very anxious for the parade to start.  Then when they were in awe at the floats.  Once they figured out the floats were tossing out candy and they were alllowed to pick it up and eat a little they were excited.  We came home with two wal-mart bags of loot from the parade.  I forsee more parades in our future!

Corn on the Cob

I forgot I had these pictures on the camera.  When my parents were up visiting for the Clay City Fair, they brought sweet corn with them.  We all enjoyed a few ears of corn on the cob.  To the best of my knowledge, this was the first time that Shelby had ever had it...on the cob anyway.

Jenna was excited about it.  She kept going to the kitchen drawer and wanting to get something out.  It took me a minute to figure out what she was after, but then she showed me the ear handles.  She insisted on me putting the handles on her food so she could eat it, so I did and she ate her corn, too.

Clay City Fair Animals

Clay City Fair was open to the public on Thursday.  We attended Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings.  The first night I forgot the camera, so all the pictures are from Saturday night.  This is is how the kid spent the majority of their time at the fair.
Saturday night Jenna insisted that we go visit the pigs.  She got a kick out of them Friday night.
Mawmaw and Poppy came up for a visit.  The fair usually puts off a big fireworks display, but due to the drought, the fireworks were cancelled; fortunately Mawmaw and Poppy came to visit anyway!  Shelby and the steer.
 Jenna, Daddy and the calves.
The girls learned about cattle manure, too.  But hey, what would the livestock barn at the fair be without a little doo?
I didn't get any pictures of the sheep area.  We were very entertained by the sheep section.  Marvin Strough saw us going throught the livestock barn and asked the girls if they wanted to feed a sheep.  He went and got a small cup of food, gave Jenna a handful and she "fed" the sheep.  Donald the sheep was very friendly and the girls were very thankful to Marvin for letting them getting up close and personal with the sheep.

 A curious goat
 A neat rooster
Poppy and Mawmaw treated the family to ice cream.  It was a BIG hit because it was 100+ degrees outside.

Diggin' for Gold

On May 26 we decided to dig into a couple projects in the yard.  Our septic wasn't draining propperly and our basement drain had stopped working.  Needless to say, Lance went diggin' for gold!  Due to the time it has taken to comlete the project and the lack of rain, I have nothing but sand in my back yard.

If you can see the tree on the left and the right of the ditch, their roots got into the clay drainage tile and filled the tile so full the tile was closed off.  We laid new hard plastic tile to hopefully never have this problem again.

Then Lance and Stan dug up the basement drain.  Funny, the exact same thing happended to that drain too.  There were two trees that had choked off the clay tile drain.  There are 3 big dirt piles you really cannot see well in this picture.
I look forward to getting my back yard fixed up and something more than dust!  However, if it doesn't rain we will be waiting a long time for that to happen!
