Help in the Kitchen

Jenna loves to help me in the kitchen....

She has mastered emptying the two bottom drawers in the kitchen, the towels / washclothes and the bibs.  Then she just likes to sit and play on and in them.

12 Month Doctor's Appointment

I cannot honestly believe that Jenna had her 12 month well child check-up today.  Jenna had the crud and finally finished her antibiotics and breathing treatments, but still sounds raspy.  I wasn't sure if we would end up on more medicine and delay shots until a later visit or not.  When the doctor came in he asked about how all of us were doing with our crud.  I said we are all feeling better, but are not completely over it.  After listening to Jenna's lungs he said they sounded wonderful that the raspyness was likely related to sinus drainage which was likely due to the other top tooth that can be felt but has not broke the skin yet.  He gave her a "clean" bill of health and allowed us to proceed with shots, but because she had been sick, she only got 2 of the 5 she should/could have gotten.  The others will be administered at her 15 mo check up.

Now on to the fun stuff.  At 9 months Jenna weighed 15 pounds and was 26 inches long.  Today Jenna weighs 18 pounds and is 28 inches long.  She grew 3 pounds and 2 inches in 3 months.

We were planning to get professional pictures taken two weekends ago for Jenna's first birthday, but we were all cruddy and decided to put them off until we were well.  Hopefully, we will get her pictures taken this weekend, if the weather isn't too foul!

Half Way

Friday we were officially 20 weeks pregnant.  This means we are half way through this pregnancy!  I can't believe how fast it has gone!  Lance and I still haven't figured out what we are going to name her....

Third Tooth & Movement

Jenna has her first tooth on top.  I am not quite sure when it broke through the skin, but I noticed it tonight.  That makes number 3!  She is getting much more confident in her walking and will take 7 to 8 steps unassisted now.

As for Delta, I have been feeling her move a lot more lately...especially in the early mornings and later evenings.

As for the crud, we all feel a lot better, but aren't 100% quite yet.

The Crud

I called the doctor's office yesterday and scheduled an appointment for Jenna...reasoning - THE CRUD.  Runny nose, lots of congestion, nasty cough, but a relatively happy little girl.  This morning you could just see it in her eyes, she just didn't look like she felt well.  Turns out she has her first ear infection (right ear) and inflamed bronchial tubes.  We left the doctor's office with a breathing treatment machine and 2 prescriptions.

Fortunately, she is in good spirits and hasn't been too difficult to deal with!  Since nothing she has is contageous and this is my busiest season for work, she has still been going to the babysitter.  Ohh, and she is up to 17 pounds 5 oz (in a clean diaper and socks).  I am betting we won't be turning around the car seat in the beginning of February, because I doubt "Skinny Minnie" is going to weigh enough to legally turn her around.  I guess the positive side of that is maybe it will be warmer when we do turn her seat around!

A Few Steps

Tonight we decided to really work with Jenna to get her to walk.  Lance and I sat a few feet apart on the floor and tried to encourage Jenna to walk between us.  We didn't have very good luck, because she only wanted to play.  So she crawled over to the TV cabinet and pulled up.  I then encouraged her to walk the 3 Jenna sized steps to Mommy and she did.   We got her to take series of 3 and 4 steps tonight holding on to nothing!  Jenna is making such good progress, I bet she will be walking by her birthday!

Doctor's Appointment... It's A.....

Today, we went to see the OB doctor for our ultrasound and 19 week check-up.  We did get a little snow overnight, but not enough to cover the top of the grass or the leaves in the yard.  However, traffic was moving a bit slow and it was a little slick out there this morning.

Ultrasound went okay. Delta did not cooperate as good a we may have liked.  Delta was in the breech position, which made it difficult to get the profile, facial, and genitile views.  We did end up with 2 pretty good profile shots.  In the first you can see the head, abdomen, and arm.

In the second, you can see the baby with legs crossed at the knees.  When we got there the legs were crossed at the ankles.  Needless to say we had to work to get Delta to reveal what anatomy was between the legs.

But the ultrasound tech pushed on my belly and got Delta to show us HER parts.  That's right, Delta is a GIRL!  The ultrasound pushed my due date back 10 days to from June 1 to June 11, making us 17 weeks 6 days pregnant, not 19 weeks 2 days.  I figure it's all an estimate anyway, Miss Delta will come whenever she is good and ready!  Now we just need to pick a formal name for our baby girl.

Nervous...

As many of you know, tomorrow is supposed to be the big day.  Are we getting a little boy or a little girl?  I am starting to get nervous that we may not get to find out.  The weather forecast is calling for anywhere from 1-3 to 2-4 inches of snow tomorrow.  Guesses are still about 50-50!  Let me know if you have a guess before tomorrow!

11 Months

Sunday (today) Jenna is 11 months old. Here is her picture with Nash. Jenna is standing in this photo, because getting her to lay on her back with her legs down, is basically impossible.

Here is a picture of her upclose.

Lately she has been ....
  • walking behind anything she can push (until she runs into a wall)
  • giving kisses and flicks her toungue saying: blither, blither, blither
  • dancing whenever she hears the music from her toys
  • starting to mimic whatever she sees mommy, daddy or other people doing

2009 A Year in Review

2009 was been quite a year! Looking back over the year, our lives and priorities really changed.
January started with Christa being 35 weeks pregnant and having a baby shower. Lance and I made preparations for the little girl that was soon to join our lives. The third week of January an ice storm hit the Evansville area, cancelling our 37 week and what would have been our last doctor’s appointment.
February began with welcoming Jenna May Hofmann into our lives. Thirteen days later we moved out of the apartment complex into a house. Then, Lance spent his first nights away from Jenna during his trip to the Louisville’s National Farm Machinery Show.
During March, we watched Jenna grow and develop as she started grinning, rolling over, smiling, and sleeping through the night. April brought Easter and Jenna wore her first dress. In May, Jenna started carrying on conversations of gibberish. Then, the Hofmann Family took a trip to Lake Barkley for a work trip with Christa. Christa celebrated her first Mother’s Day.
June had a couple more firsts. Jenna had her first cereal and her first day of daycare. Lance celebrated his first Father’s Day, though we knew we were pregnant on Father’s Day 2008. We took our first family vacation to the Lake Michigan area in Indiana.
July started with camping and getting most of the camping group’s girls together. Lance started a new job with Vincennes Tractor, selling John Deere equipment. Jenna started standing up against objects and had her first tractor ride at Thresherman’s Park summer show.
August brought many changes with transferring from the baby bather to the big tub, eating many different puree foods, sitting up unassisted and getting toe nails painted for the first time. Then, September brought crawling and eating semi solid foods.
October started with Mommy having her first 2 nights away from Jenna, because of work. Then Jenna got to go on her first combine ride. Lance and Christa found out they were pregnant again, Jenna got her first two teeth, pulling herself up, and feeding herself solid foods. Halloween was celebrated by hosting trick-or-treaters.
November included several more combine rides with Daddy as the farmers worked to finish harvesting the crops. Thanksgiving Eve brought our first play date with the camping group girls. Then, Lance and Christa celebrated their fourth wedding anniversary on Thanksgiving Day.
December started with sharing news of our pregnancy with our family and friends. Jenna met Santa Claus. Mommy and Daddy started getting kisses from Jenna. Then we celebrated Christmas with the Williams, Hofmann, Rentchler and Gumbel families. We finished off the year with a couple dinner parties a quiet New Year’s Eve. We thank God for the blessings that have been given to us in 2009 and look forward to 2010!
