Clay City Fair ususally has a parade on Wednesday night to kick off the fair. This year, the Fourth of July was on Wednesday so they had to rearrange the fair schedule a little bit. I had only seen the tail end of the parade and that was last year. Mom and Dad left just before it rained, we got a small rain shower, and decided to go over to the parade since the rain had stopped.
I didn't get any pictures, because I was helping, but the girls had a BLAST! They were very anxious for the parade to start. Then when they were in awe at the floats. Once they figured out the floats were tossing out candy and they were alllowed to pick it up and eat a little they were excited. We came home with two wal-mart bags of loot from the parade. I forsee more parades in our future!

Corn on the Cob
I forgot I had these pictures on the camera. When my parents were up visiting for the Clay City Fair, they brought sweet corn with them. We all enjoyed a few ears of corn on the cob. To the best of my knowledge, this was the first time that Shelby had ever had it...on the cob anyway.
Jenna was excited about it. She kept going to the kitchen drawer and wanting to get something out. It took me a minute to figure out what she was after, but then she showed me the ear handles. She insisted on me putting the handles on her food so she could eat it, so I did and she ate her corn, too.

Clay City Fair Animals
Clay City Fair was open to the public on Thursday. We attended Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings. The first night I forgot the camera, so all the pictures are from Saturday night. This is is how the kid spent the majority of their time at the fair.
Saturday night Jenna insisted that we go visit the pigs. She got a kick out of them Friday night.
Mawmaw and Poppy came up for a visit. The fair usually puts off a big fireworks display, but due to the drought, the fireworks were cancelled; fortunately Mawmaw and Poppy came to visit anyway! Shelby and the steer.

Jenna, Daddy and the calves.
The girls learned about cattle manure, too. But hey, what would the livestock barn at the fair be without a little doo?
I didn't get any pictures of the sheep area. We were very entertained by the sheep section. Marvin Strough saw us going throught the livestock barn and asked the girls if they wanted to feed a sheep. He went and got a small cup of food, gave Jenna a handful and she "fed" the sheep. Donald the sheep was very friendly and the girls were very thankful to Marvin for letting them getting up close and personal with the sheep.
A curious goat
A neat rooster
Poppy and Mawmaw treated the family to ice cream. It was a BIG hit because it was 100+ degrees outside.Wednesday, July 4, 2012

Diggin' for Gold
On May 26 we decided to dig into a couple projects in the yard. Our septic wasn't draining propperly and our basement drain had stopped working. Needless to say, Lance went diggin' for gold! Due to the time it has taken to comlete the project and the lack of rain, I have nothing but sand in my back yard.
If you can see the tree on the left and the right of the ditch, their roots got into the clay drainage tile and filled the tile so full the tile was closed off. We laid new hard plastic tile to hopefully never have this problem again.
Then Lance and Stan dug up the basement drain. Funny, the exact same thing happended to that drain too. There were two trees that had choked off the clay tile drain. There are 3 big dirt piles you really cannot see well in this picture.
I look forward to getting my back yard fixed up and something more than dust! However, if it doesn't rain we will be waiting a long time for that to happen!
